TOP showreel producer, Chris Stone, is BACK for the final 'Showreel Surgery LIVE' of 2026 - packed with practical advice to get your reel ready for 2027.
In this 3 HOUR deep-dive, Chris reviews a selection of Act On This members' showreels, revealing how brilliant performances can be let down by the edit... and how to fix them.
From grabbing attention in the opening seconds, to a revealing before-and-after reel transformation, you'll discover how to turn your existing footage into a far more powerful tool for getting auditions.
During the broadcast, we discuss:
- Why your showreel needs to seduce casting directors within the first few seconds.
- Why your name, headshot and opening shot must make YOU instantly identifiable.
- How to choose an opening scene that reflects your natural accent and casting.
- Why showing different shades of your casting type beats playing against it for your ego.
- How contrasting emotional tones can make each performance feel more powerful.
- The headshot and showreel mismatches that make your Spotlight profile harder to sell.
- Why 2 minutes and 20 seconds is a ceiling - and never a target to fill.
- How to trim dead air without cutting scenes so short they lose their payoff.
- Why your reel could be selling your scene partner more effectively than you.
- When music builds tension - and when it actually weakens an emotional performance.
- The distracting audio cuts, uneven volume levels and flashy transitions to fix.
- Why impressive old credits aren't enough if the footage no longer looks like you.
- How a before-and-after edit transforms existing footage through sound, colour and smarter scene selection.
- The thumbnail, title, contact card and Vimeo settings that can trip you up.
- The ONE thing Chris wants EVERY actor to know.
- And MUCH MUCH more!
Your best showreel might already be sitting in your existing footage...
It could just need a little surgery.
