Downton Abbey recommissioned for a fifth series!

ITV has confirmed that Downton Abbey is to return for a fifth series in 2014.

Audience figures for the fourth series hit an average 11.8 million viewers – making it the highest rated drama on television in 2013.

Downton Abbey also broke records in the US earlier this year with the finale of Series 3 beating all network and cable competition to become the highest rating programme that evening on American television.

Downton Abbey returned to our screens for a fourth series and record viewing figures last night!

The Julian Fellowes drama drew an average share of 9.5 million viewers – 36% of the evening’s TV audience, securing an audience that was nearly double that of its nearest rival, BBC1’s By Any Means.

It reached a peak audience of 10.5 million viewers, according to ITV.

Downton Abbey’s exec producer Gareth Neame has hinted that the show could run for another six years!

Speaking to NY Daily News Neame said:

“I think it is going to go on for a while.

“Right now the show is still growing in the U.S. and it would be awful to think of the show ending.

“I would rather let the show run between four and ten years, I imagine.”

Way back in February, we reported that the hunt was on for someone to play newcomer Jack Ross – a Jazz musician.

The casting notes read:

“Male, 25-30. A musician (singer) at an exclusive club in the ’20s. He’s black and very handsome. A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma.”

Well Gary, who you will have seen in Death in Paradise and Bluestone 42 is their man!

Downton Abbey looks to add its first black actor!

Execs on Downton Abbey are reportedly on the hunt for the first black actor to appear in the show.

The fourth series of ITV’s smash hit drama is currently in production and features a storyline surrounding race relations in the 1920s, according to The Sun.

Producers are said to be searching for an actor to play musician Jack Ross in the show.

Casting notes for the character read:

Should we believe the rumours?

The rumours surrounding Dan Steven’s apparent exit from Downton Abbey should be taken with a pinch of salt – according to the show’s executive producer Gareth Neame!

Rumours that the actor was leaving the show began to circulate earlier this month.

Julian Fellowes even admitted there was nothing he could do about the actor’s decision.

Well in an interview with The Hollyowood Reporter yesterday, Neame said that 95 percent of the things written about his show are “completely inaccurate.”

Creator of Downton Abbey – Julian Fellowes, has spoken out regarding recent rumours that Dan Stevens is to leave the ITV1 period drama.

Dan, who plays popular character Matthew Crawley on the show, will reportedly exit Downton in 2013 following the premiere of series four.

“Sometimes actors feel they want to move on,” Fellowes told EW.com.
