Promote Your Acting Career With Facebook’s Timeline!

A few days ago, Facebook announced that it’s new Timeline feature will be forced upon every one of its 800 million users.

Until now it’s been voluntary, but over the next few weeks, more and more users will wake up to find Timeline integrated with their profiles.

The overhaul allows the website to show a detailed look at your whole Facebook history, rather than simply listing your latest posts and details.

It makes everything you have ever done on Facebook — along with your pictures — appear in one screen that scrolls down year by year – right back to when you were born!

Whether this is a good or a bad thing is debatable, but as it’s compulsory, the Act On This team have been thinking of ways to use it to our advantage as actors.

Most people have a personal profile on Facebook, but what if users set up a separate profile/ ‘like’ page on the site and used it as their professional Facebook profile – for use within their acting careers?

Effectively the Timeline feature would prove an interactive online multimedia CV – perhaps the most in depth CV an actor could ever wish for!

You can upload all of your showreel clips, show off your production photos, keep people posted with what you are currently up to – and of course, casting directors and agents up and down the country have their own Facebook profiles, pages and groups.

Interaction has never been easier!

Of course it’s not going to replace your regular acting CV, but having an ever increasing online presence is very important for any actor in the modern industry.

The new design that Timeline brings with it, gives us an extra advantage as actors too.

You’ll see that with Timeline, comes a large banner section at the top of a user’s profile.

Facebook are calling this the user’s cover.

This cover is generally used to show off a particularly impressive photograph detailing a moment in a user’s life.

But what if we created custom covers for this area, promoting our acting careers?

We could showcase important information to anyone viewing our profile, and also give a super professional look to our Facebook Timeline, making us stand out from the crowd!

We threw the task to Ross, to see what he could come up with in Photoshop, and we were mightily impressed!

Ross used social media icons effectively, to enable visitors to see other ways they could connect with Jaz, integrated his headshot, left space for agent’s details and even integrated Jaz’s QR code from his Act On This CV, enabling Facebook visitors to view Jaz’s CV simply by scanning the QR code on his cover.

With a little imagination, Facebook’s new cover images can be used to great effect!

Designing YOUR Facebook Timeline Cover

As we mentioned above, the easiest way to design your own Facebook Timeline cover is in a graphics package similar to Photoshop.

If you don’t have Photoshop, and you don’t want to purchase it, there is a FREE alternative available online called Gimp.

Gimp offers very similar functionality to Photoshop and would enable you to create Facebook Timeline covers for free.

Your cover must have the following specification;

• Your Facebook Timeline cover should be sized 851 pixels wide and 314 pixels high.
• You should save your Facebook Timeline cover as a JPEG image.
